Activity Description:

On Saturday 21st February Kent Mammal Group has arranged a morning walk to look for Brown Hares at Scotney Court Farm on Romney Marsh (by kind permission of Mr Simon Ashworth).

This large mixed farm covers much of the south eastern part of Walland Marsh and has a resident population of hares. The walk offers opportunities for bird watching – with both farmland and wetland species. It is also the chance to learn something of the landscape history of Romney Marsh with the walk using ancient sea walls and crossing the Wainway Creek - once an important anchorage for ships. It is close to the new Romney Marsh wind farm.

The walk will be limited to six people (but as many walks as necessary can be organised in the next three months, if there is ongoing demand).

The cost is £6 per person (50% to KMG funds and 50% to a charity nominated by Mr Ashworth). There is also the opportunity to have a light lunch costing £6 (50% to KMG funds).

In the unlikely event that no hares are seen there will be the option to return to the farm after lunch or to come back at a later date at no charge.

The walk will be led by Greg Thompson and will meet at High Street House, 7 High Street, Lydd, TN29 9AJ at 8.30am (toilets available), prior to driving about two miles to the farm. Lunch will be back at High Street House.
